RABIS AND KALININ
On the subject relevant to Rabis, the Arts and particularly people involved therein, Kalinin comments:
‘Last year Soviet theatre made bold progress ahead. The theatre is starting to enter life, to seize the viewer. The last theatre season showed that the theatre no longer lives on its own, removed from the masses. Inside the theatre itself, a true revolutionary life starts boiling. The revolution in the theatre started because life demands it.’
Thus the theatre was being sucked into the sphere of government control. Soon it would be completely purged. Most of its leading figures were shot or sent to labour camps in the next decade.
